About Treatment
The essence of LASIK method has been improved by several scientists over the years. The beginning of the creation of LASIK is associated with the development of the first microkeratome in the 60s. Microkeratome is an automatic knife used to cut a thin flap from the cornea from the surface of the eye. This procedure (keratomileusis) constitutes the initial stage in LASIK surgery.
One of the founders of LASIK, Rangaswamy Srinivasan, discovered in 1981 that the ultraviolet excimer laser, due to its low action temperature, can be used to cut living tissue without damaging it. The properties of the excimer laser to gently alter the optical properties of the cornea have determined its role in the development of LASIK. Since 1983, Rangaswamy Srinivasan has been collaborating with ophthalmologists to improve the technique, and this was the beginning of the LASIK technology.
Greek ophthalmologist Ioannis Pallikaris contributed a lot to the development of the LASIK method. It was he who developed the technique that is now used in all eye clinics in the world and gave it the name "LASIK". LASIK technology was finalized by 1991, and at the same time, patients in the USA and Germany were operated using the LASIK method.
LASIK Technology
Although the Lasik method is considered an operation, it is so difficult to call it. It takes only 10-15 minutes to carry out Lasik with local anesthesia, while the laser effect lasts no more than 40 seconds.
In the process of LASIK correction, the cornea is first exposed to microkeratome or femtosecond laser, which is the most modern method of treatment, separating the surface layers of the cornea, freeing the access of the laser beam to deeper layers.
With the help of automatically guided microkeratome (a special instrument), a thin plate is formed at the cornea, which folds back like a book cover or a lid. Then the laser simulates the cornea according to the specified parameters, evaporates a part of the cornea, returns the flap to its place, and it is fixed there thanks to collagen, the cornea's own substance. There is no need to suture, as the epithelium is naturally regenerated along the edge of the flap. In this case, the subsequent rehabilitation process is minimal, and vision returns to patient a couple of hours after Lasik. Its final recovery will take no more than 2-3 days.

Duration
Duration of LASIK is 10-15 minutes. Most of the time is spent for the local anesthetic to take effect. The direct effect of the laser on the eye takes, depending on the degree of myopia, from 20 seconds to 1 minute.
-
Rehabilitation Period
1.5-2 hours after LASIK, doctor conducts a control examination of patient and lets them go home. A scheduled visit is usually scheduled the next day, 4-5 days later, and also one month after the procedure.
LASIK - laser vision correction is recommended for patients with existing visual impairments:
With mild to moderate myopia (up to 5.0 diopters)
Astigmatism up to 1.75 D
LASIK is contraindicated:
Progressive myopia
Corneal dystrophy
Keratoconus
Abnormalities in the immune system.
After the age of 45, the result of recovery may be incomplete, and therefore Lasik operation is not recommended.
There is a restriction on the age of patients, the optimal age is from 18 to 45 years. It is undesirable to perform the procedure in patients under 18 years. During the period of growth and formation of a young organism, the formation of the visual system takes place. Until the full formation of vision, and this is not earlier than 18 years, any intervention is simply inappropriate.
When planning LASIK surgery, it is important to consider the following points:
Contact lenses reshape the cornea, and it will take at least 7 days to restore it to normal. Therefore, it is necessary to switch to glasses in advance before the operation.
Stop using cosmetics, both caring and decorative, the day before eye surgery.
Despite the low invasiveness of LASIK surgery, it is better to have someone who will accompany you home after the procedure.
When LASIK laser vision correction is completed, in the first minutes after the operation, patient may feel a slight burning sensation or sensation of a foreign body, but these consequences are short-lived. You may want to rub your eye, but this is strictly prohibited.
After LASIK surgery:
Significant physical activity and non-contact sports are prohibited for 10-14 days;
The use of cosmetics is prohibited for 14 days;
Contact sports are prohibited for 1-1.5 months.
Laser vision correction LASIK easily and painlessly removes mild and moderate myopia, mild astigmatism, and low farsightedness. As a result of safe intervention, patient regains excellent vision. You gain independence from glasses and contact lenses. After a day, patients can lead a normal life. It is recommended to refrain from actively washing the eyes for a couple of days. Full restoration of vision after Lasik surgery occurs within 5-7 days.
